Autonomous rides enter Uber’s interface
Reuters reported that Uber, Verne and Pony.ai launched autonomous rides in Zagreb on August 19, with booking available through the Uber app. Pony.ai’s earlier official announcement said Europe’s first commercial robotaxi service would initially operate through the Verne App, with Uber integration to follow. Together, those disclosures indicate that the distribution shift has moved from a stated plan to live availability.
Platform distribution can reduce acquisition friction
A standalone robotaxi service must build downloads, registration, payments, support and rider habits on its own. Uber-app access can reuse a familiar demand interface. Fleet operations, remote support and local compliance still remain with the operators, but customer acquisition and order entry can become platformized. The next test is operating density
